The cockle is a bivalve mollusk that is extracted from fine sand bottoms and from the beds of the Rías. It has a characteristic sea flavor, and a high nutritional value. The common cockle shell is yellowish white, usually with dark lines and features 22 to 28 very pronounced, rough and wide radial ribs, which are crossed by concentric stripes and scaly thorns.

Its shape is globose, almost triangular and can reach 6 cm.
